Sketches
Rough sketches: $1
Exactly what they sound like: rough doodles the likes of which reside in my old notebooks between philosophy and rhetoric. One to three figures, and maybe a prop or two, drawn in pencil on printer paper. No background.
Cost to ship it to you is a flat fifty cents.
Pencil sketches: $3
Basically the above only cleaned up. $3 for two people, limited props, no background. minimal shading. Extra fifty cents for every figure, up to five. Pencil on printer paper.
Cost to ship it to you is a flat fifty cents.
"True" pencils: $10
A refined version of the above pencil sketch, you'll get as true a background as I'm capable of and full shading. Colored pencils might be negotiable. Bristol paper.
Ship cost: see below
NOTE: I am not an art student. Do not expect perfectly rendered spheres.
Colors and Inks
Pen and Ink: $20-40
Line weight, shading, one-two people, props. Extra 5 dollars a person, four people max, backgrounds will cost you an extra 5 dollars. Drawn with Copic archival quality pens on Bristol paper. Cost is dependent upon complexity of characters/scene/background.
Ship cost: see below
Cell-shaded CG: $20-40
This would be anything you see in the comic: fully colored characters (up to two included in the base price, an extra $5 per person, up to five total--more are negotiable though) and props. Backgrounds are optional, and will be painted. These can be full color or black and white. Original line art will either be hand drawn on paper or as a digital sketch on a separate layer, depending on the complexity of the piece and my mood about it. Again, cost is dependent upon how many characters/intricate details/backgrounds/etc.
Ship cost: see below
Painted CG: $25-50
Slightly more expensive than cell-shaded, in respect to time. Two people are included in the cost, but you can have up to 5 (this number is negotiable, however) for an extra $5 a figure. Full color (or full greys), with props. Backgrounds are optional. Original line art will either be hand drawn on paper or as a digital sketch on a separate layer, depending on the complexity of the piece and my mood about it. As always, be aware that if you want me to draw you the Nymphaeum, I'm going to charge you accordingly.
Ship Cost: see below
A note on backgrounds:
In some situations the price of the background will be negotiable, either lower or higher, all dependent on the complexity of what you want. Background prices will be discussed as the piece develops.
Shipping
Receiving a phyical copy of the piece is optional, but should you wish it, it'll run you $8 dollars ($4 dollars if your commission is in traditional media and I don't have to worry about printing it), including the price of a stiff envelope and postage. All lead up sketches and drawings can be included if you wish. Should your commission be digital, let me know if you'd like a second print--additional prints are 3 to 5 dollars each (what? ink is expensive?)
Also, I tend to SUCK at getting to the post office in a timely matter, so if this is a gift, TELL ME in the initial commissioning emails. If urgency isn't an issue, and should I suck horribly at mailing it to you (ie, if it takes me more than 2 weeks), I usually stick an extra doodle or three into the envelope as a kind of apology.
Here's how it works...
How to commission me: reach me at this email address: Put the word "commission" somewhere in the header of the email, and leave me a run down of what you want--what kind of commission you're hoping for, how many characters, subject matter, character descriptions, etc. If you have a reference sheet or your own drawings of the characters, that'd be frickin' cool--either as an attachment or a link is awesome sauce. Also, if there's a certain scene/situation/pose you're wanting, now's the time to let me know.
Give me a day or two to get back to you, after which we can discuss prices and I can get any other information I'm gonna need or think I'm gonna need.
If you're just getting s cheap-o 1-2 dolla sketch, the next time you hear from me will be with the commission, at which time payment is requested before you gets it.
If not, I'll get right to sketching out my ideas and my takes on the characters. I'll keep touch to make sure I'm going in the right direction and to make sure you're liking what I've come up with, and I'll give you a pose or three to choose from. If none fit your fancy, we'll just lather-rinse-repeat as necessary until I've got it down. This is a technique I'm stealing from an artist I've commissioned and I personally was happy with the results--also, I put that girl through hell so it's time to take my own: feel free to make as many nit-picks as necessary to get what you want.
Once we've come to a consensus on the piece, I'll get straight down to work on the offical lineart, which I will present to you for final approval when I've finished it. At this point, if it flies, you send me teh monies (paypal ftw), I make with the inks or the colors or whatnot, and after receiving payment, you will receive an email with a high res version of the final piece. If you have requested and paid for a physical manifestion of your commission, it will be mailed to you shortly thereafter and you will be notified as soon as I have sent it.
